India to gift cricket stadium to Maldives

CONTEXT

  • India will build a cricket stadium, which is likely to come up at Hulhumale, an island south of North Male atoll.
  • India will also train young Maldivian men and women in cricket.
  • Ties between India and the Maldives have warmed considerably after the election of Ibrahim Mohamed Solih as the president in September, 2018.
