1.International Film Festival of India (IFFI)

Why in News?
  • Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting announced that Golden Jubilee Edition of International Film Festival of India(IFFI) will showcase around 250 films.
  • For the first time, films with audio description will be screened for the visually impaired.
About IFFI:
  • It is biggest state-backed international festival of India.It is conducted jointly by Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Directorate of Film Festivals and Government of Goa.
  • It was started in 1952 and since then held annually in Goa.
  • It aims at providing common platform for cinemas of world to project the excellence of the film art.
  • It also seeks to contribute to create awareness for understanding and appreciation of film cultures of different nations in context of their social and cultural ethos and promote friendship and cooperation among people of the world.
  • IFFI 2019- Partner: In this years’ edition i.e. 50th International Film Festival of India, Russia will be IFFI’s partner.
  • Organiser: IFFI 2019 is being organised in Panaji jointly by Directorate of Film Festivals and state-run Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG).

2.National e-Assessment Centre (NeAC)

Why in News?
  • Finance Minister inaugurated the income tax department’s National e-Assessment Centre (NeAC), which will avoid face-to-face interaction between taxpayers and tax officials.
About:
  • The setting up of National e-Assessment Centre (NeAC) of the Income Tax Department is a momentous step towards the larger objectives of better taxpayer service, reduction of taxpayer grievances in line with Prime Minister’s vision of ‘Digital India’ and promotion of ease of doing business.
  • Under the new system, tax payers have received notices on their registered emails as well as on registered accounts on the web portal www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in with real time alert by way of SMS on their registered mobile number, specifying the issues for which their cases have been selected for scrutiny.
  • The replies to the notices can be prepared at ease by the tax payers at their own residence or office and be sent by email to the National e-Assessment Centre by uploading the same on the designated web portal.
  • This is another initiative by CBDT in the field of ease of compliance for our tax payers.

3.India’s First e-Waste Clinic: Bhopal

About:
  • India’s first e-waste clinic for segregating, processing and disposal of waste from household and commercial units will be set-up in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.
  • In this regard, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) for its establishment.
  • Electronic waste will either be collected door-to-door or could be deposited directly at the clinic by individuals.
  • The clinic is being conceived in compliance with the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016.
  • The e-waste clinic would enable segregation, processing and disposal of waste from both household and commercial units.

4.Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA)

Why in News?
  • 18th meeting of the Governing Body of Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA) was recently held at New Delhi.
About ICWA:
  • The Indian Council of World Affairs is a New Delhi based Indian Think-Tank.
  • Established in 1943, it is devoted exclusively for the study of international relations and foreign affairs.
  • By an Act of Parliament, it has been declared an institution of national importance in 2001.
  • The Vice President of India is the ex-officio President of ICWA.
  • The founder-president of the Council was Sir Tej Bahadur Sapru.
  • ‘Asian Relations Conference’ in 1947 under the leadership of freedom fighter Sarojini Naidu and ‘United Nations and the New World Order’ in 1994, are some of its historic international conferences. 

5.39th World Congress of Poets

Why in News?
  • Vice President of India addressed the valedictory ceremony of 39th World Congress of Poets at Bhubaneswar.
About:
  • The WCP was founded in 1969. It was held at Manila, Philippines the first time.
  • It is being organized by WAAC – World Academy of Arts and Culture.
  • The WAAC conducts poetry workshops, art exhibits, dance, music, cultural exchange programs.
  • The organization maintains a library at Taipei, Taiwan. WAAC serves UIA – Union of International Associations.
  • UIA is a research institute and documentation center headquartered at Brussels. It was founded in 1907. It monitors international organizations, association and their challenges.
  • The 39th World Congress of Poets was inaugurated at the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology at Bhubaneshwar, Odisha.
